The Shadow of the Third Moon£19.99 - CD Only | |
| It's been a while since I played any flight sim type games. Not that this is a simulation, it's set on a distant planet, in another galaxy, far, far away. Get the picture? Good!
What we have got is a nice voxel engine (3dTIS) producing 3D landscapes for you to fly over while blasting various enemy air and ground targets. A little tricky to fly at first but after one or two training missions you'll be destroying enemy scum with no problem. Either inside or outside views can be enabled, whichever is you preference, load up with a few basic weapons, and away you go. Choose the missile view and watch yourself slam into the side of an oil silo, fly through the nice plumes of smoke as they burn. Gloat at the thick, black smoke as the vehicles crash and burn. Oh what fun! Nice and simple. Keyboard, mouse or joystick. You only really need to know 8 keyboard strokes. 6 campaigns with 8 scenarios each. Good flight control and movement even on a slower machine. Realistic enemy. Small array of weaponary. You can install it, load it, and progress straight away. The difficulty seems just about right, and the game plays well. Just what we like! Any problems with the game? Only a few points... there doesn't seem to be any engine noise as you fly around, nor any from the enemy planes as they fly past... Aside from that it's a really good blast.
