Unlike the "Using Windows NT" book, this one gives you the low down on the new release of NT- version 4! Although it's new for NT, its the same interface as Windows 95 so if you've used 95, you can use the new NT.
Much of this book (2 out of 4 chapters) is spent on topics such as "Using Wallpaper" or "Controlling the mouse" which may seem a bit simplistic to anyone who has used Windows before, but it guides you through installing and setting up NT with kid gloves. Everything is explained, right down to the Start Menu and wallpaper. Nobody, repeat, nobody could not at least manage to install NT and get it running... (and no, I won't put money on it!)...
All migration (Win3.1 and 95) setup issues are covered, and there's a trouble shooting guide should you get any problems during the installation stage, including video and disk problems, and those, "Its not going to work at all" messages that can have you pulling your hair out if you don't know!
"Creating Solutions through Integration" covers the DOS, OS/2 and POSIX applications running under NT, and how to get them to work. There's also sections on DDE and OLE technology should you use these, or want to know what they are.
The last Chapter includes the real techie issues, Networking, Remote Access and the System Registry all get a good going over. Although it goes into each subject at great depths, a basic understanding is already assumed so the novice user might be a bit baffled by it all.
A good read if you have or intend treading the NT path and have limited experience with either of Microsoft's older operating systems. More expect users may be left wanting more, but then, saying that, it is the "Users Edition" and users shouldn't be editing the System Registry anyway!!!!
