FinalWriter 5 review. Full version = £74.95 - Upgrade (from FW4) = £22.95 Here at last! The release of Final Writer 5. A host of improvements have been made, all of which have been requested by users themselves, so each one of them should be usefull to someone, from the welcome HTML export and support for DataTypes, to the more obscure RTF format support! Since it was first created we have used one version or another of Final Writer. It has always been versatile, efficient, reliable and handled everything we've required from it with no problems. With the continuing updates and improvements this version is now an impressive bit of software. Plus, with the release of Final Writer for the PC, it's now easier than ever to transfer documents between the two platforms. Some of those new/enhanced features are... HTML: Simply design the web page as you would a normal document, then export it as HTML. However as there is yet no import of HTML documents, you must remember to save it as a normal page if it is likely to be changed at any time. DataTypes: Import any graphic onto the page that you have DataType support for. JPeg, GIF, PCX, PNG, etc. etc. Should have been done ages ago, but at least it's here now. RTF: Rich Text Format is fairly common on PCs and can be used to transfer text documents between platforms. However, if you have any control over what software is used on your PC, then I would advise you to buy the PC version of Final Writer. It's only £19.95! Tables: A much needed enhancement which should be included in all word processors. Used for columnar information, formatted and aligned lists and graphics. Required in many documents and considered essential by some people. The most requested enhancement. Grammar Check: If your grammar needs checking, this will do it faster and better than before. There is so much in Final Writer now that it's hard not to recommend it to everyone for almost everything. Once the 'limited' HTML support has been increased it will be beneficial to everyone.
