![]() Vulcan Software - £16.99.
This looks interesting, it's a kind of version of 'Command and Conquer'. I actually saw this on a magazine coverdisk a year or so ago. Apparently it was developed for one company who decided to drop it when the Amiga 'troubles' started. So in stepped Vulcan, picked up the distribution rights, thus ensuring it was still released. | ![]()
![]() | The game consists of controlling your little soldiers in an effort to complete various missions. Once they're completed you move onto the next level, 65 of them in all. Joystick, mouse or joypad controled, you can move individual men (or are they women? I can't tell!) or groups into attack, defence or patrol positions.
While you're doing this the enemy are doing the same thing. Oh yeh. It's not just infantrymen you control either, there are flamethrowers, gliders, tanks, transporters, armoured cars, mine layers and others. The mission objectives usually contain a variation of; Kill all the enemy, destroy the enemy base, rescue the prisoners,or a combination of the above. | ![]()
![]() | To select a man you just click on him, to select a group, drag a bounding box out till it covers the soldiers required. Actions are then performed by clicking on a row of icons at the bottom of the screen and / or moving across the screen to the target or destination, and away they go. The enemy have a good intelligence, as do your own troops when they're left alone, they'll defend themselves or a selected area but wont go home to fix themselves up.
Compatible with all Amigas, hard drive installable, animated introduction, extra graphics, sound and animation for AGA machines, 65 battles across different scenarios, and split screen 1 or 2 player mode. The game is a good one and will prove challenging enough for most people. The only criticism I've got is the visable playing area is too small. This makes it difficult to find a stray or injured man when timing is critical, and is worse when the vertical split screen 2 player mode is used. Aside from that, it's been worth the wait. | ![]()
