| THE COLLECTION Treasures from the Museum's fine collection of East Asian art are displayed on three floors of a restored Georgian house in the heart of the World Heritage City of Bath. The collection displays over 500 East Asian art treasures including examples from China, Tibet, Mongolia, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Indochina. Many rare and Exceptional items are on show. We believe that a visit to the Museum will be an eye-opener to the wonders of East Asian art and an unforgettable experience. The collection is particularly rich in Chinese art and Chinese jades. Over 200 Chinese ceramics, covering the period from 2500BC to 1820AD are displayed and the collection has a large number of ceramics of the Song Period 960-1279 AD. Over 100 examples of Chinese jade ranging in date from neolithic times(c7000-2000BC) to 1800AD are exhibited. The metalware collection includes gold, silver, bronze, cloisonné, enamel and other metals, It is particularly strong in 'Ordos' bronzes - items created by or for the nomadic horsemen and herders living on the borders of China. The metalwares range in date from c1600BC to 1881AD and include fine and unusual examples of gilding and inlays. |
| GENERAL INFORMATION Introduction: A 10 minute video introduction with commentaries in English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese or Japanese can be viewed in the lecture room / temporary exhibition gallery. Museum Shop: This is located in the reception area. Visitors with disabilities: Facilities include a lift (accompanied) to the main galleries and toilet facilities. Opening Times: Open throught the year except Christmas and New Year periods.
